The examples we give above all refer to positive state changes and we hope that at least some of the examples you observed in your own life were positive too. But it is also important to bring our awareness to the things that can cause a negative state change within us. Does your stomach immediately get tight when you log onto your emails? Does listening to the news cause you anxiety or stress? Does checking social media leave you feeling depressed? While it may not be practical to stop doing things that cause a negative change to our internal state, it is worth bringing them to our awareness so that we can work to manage the negative impact.
